Alinia is made up of Nitazoxanide which is a antiprotozoal agent. We have the generic version Nitazoxanide in oral tablet form available in 200mg and 500mg.
Nitazoxanide is used for a couple of different conditions, but primarily in patients who have infections caused by protozoa (single-cell parasites that live in moist places) and those who have Traveler’s diarrhea ( diarrhea caused by Giardia or Cryptosporidium)
This medication works by stopping the growth of the protozoas that cause diarrhea.
Always follow directions given to you by your doctor. Never take more or less of a dosage than directed and never stop taking this medication before consulting your doctor.
Take this medication with food.
This product is typically taken once every 12 hours for 3 days.
Store in room temperature away from moisture, heat and light. Keep away from children and pets.
Do not take this medication if you are allergic to Nitazoxanide.
Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, HIV or AIDS, a weak immune system as well as any medications you may take, including over-the-counter, vitamins, and herbal remedies.
Do not give this tablet to a child under the age of 12 years old. The liquid form of nitazoxanide is appropriate for those 11 and under.
Nitazoxanide is not known to harm fetuses in pregnant women.
It is unknown if nitazoxanide passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast feeding on nitazoxanide.
Get emergency medical attention if you have signs of an allergic reaction (hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat).
Common side effects may include:
nausea, stomach pain; vomiting; diarrhea; headache; or discolored urine.

Is this medication safe for children?
The oral tablet is only safe for children 12 years old and up. Doses vary.
The liquid form is safe for children 1-11 years of age. Doses vary.

What are the signs of allergic reaction?
sneezing and an itchy, runny or blocked nose (allergic rhinitis) itchy, red, watering eyes (conjunctivitis) wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath and a cough. a raised, itchy, red rash (hives) swollen lips, tongue, eyes or face.
