Epiduo Gel is a topical medication that is used to treat vulgaris acne (severe acne). Acne can occur when the oil glands of the hair begin to over-produce sebum (oil) that your skin needs as a lubricant and for protection. The extra oil can clog your pores, causing redness, swelling, and inflammation. This medication may help decrease the number and severity of acne pimples and promote quick healing of pimples that do appear.
You can buy Epiduo Gel (Adapalene/Benzoyle Peroxide) online at My Drug Center. We currently do not have the Epiduo Gel generic alternative available for purchase.
Epiduo Gel contains a combination of Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide. Adapalene is similar to Vitamin A - it helps the skin renew itself. It works by stopping the abnormal buildup of a skin protein (keratin) in the pores, and decreases swelling and inflammation. Benzoyl Peroxide has an antibacterial effect and is a skin-peeling agent. It also has a mild drying effect which allows excess oils and dirt to be easily washed away from the skin. Benzoyl peroxide works by reducing the amount of acne-causing bacteria and by causing the skin to dry and peel off.
Apply a thin layer of your prescribed Epiduo Gel dosage to clean, dry skin, taking care to avoid the eyes, nose, and mouth. Because Epiduo Gel can irritate the skin and make it more sensitive to sunlight, apply a sunscreen after allowing time for the medication on your skin to dry completely.
Your skin may look worse for the first few weeks that you use Epiduo before you start to see any benefits. It's likely to make your skin peel and become dry and red. Your acne may worsen, too.
Do not use Epiduo Gel on sunburned, windburned, dry, chapped, irritated, or broken skin. Also avoid using Epiduo gel on wounds or on areas of eczema. Wait until these conditions have healed before using this medication.
Epiduo Gel may contain medical and non medical ingredients that could cause an allergic reaction. Be sure to discuss other medical conditions, known allergies, and list any over-the-counter or prescription medications, and herbal products you are currently taking.
Common Epiduo Gel side effects include:
Dryness and scaling, stinging or burning, and sensitivity to sunlight
If any side effects of Adapalene/Benzoyle Peroxide become unmanageable speak with your doctor or pharmacist for help in managing any side effects. For any serious side effects that occur speak with your doctor right away for further treatment options.
