A Charley horse is a muscle spasm; it’s when your muscles suddenly tighten up on its own. These cramps can happen anywhere in the body; however legs are usually the most common. Now muscle spasms and cramps are common in Multiple sclerosis (MS). And it is needless to say that MS is a long standing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. Many symptoms include spasms and muscle stiffness. Alongside other issues such as thinking problems and urinary problems.
Muscle cramps and spasms are when your muscles suddenly become too hard and stiff, and painful. This medication is used to treat muscle spasms that are caused by conditions such as, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury and disease. Overall this medication works by relaxing the muscles and helps to ease you out of pain.
This medication comes in two different strengths which are 10mg and 20mg. Remember your dose is based on your medical background and your overall response to the treatment. If your doctor or pharmacist has given you some information in the form of a pamphlet, take the time to read up on this drug, and if you have any questions or concerns regarding this medication, please consult your doctor.
This medication is to be taken by mouth, with or without food, and usually 3 times a day. And to reduce any side effects your doctor may direct you to start this medication at a lower dose and then gradually increase your dose as time goes by.
Remember that the dosage is based on your medical condition and your response to the treatment. Use this medication often to gain the most amount of benefits and do not stop taking this medication without speak to your doctor about the situation first. Since suddenly ceasing to take this medication may result in an increase in side effects, and you may grow to have withdrawal symptoms, such as hallucinations and seizures.
Before taking this medication, it is best to advise your doctor if you are allergic to Baclofen; or to any other medications or allergies in general.
Also it is best to notify your doctor of your medical history. Inform you doctor if you have had any of the following; kidney disease, mental/mood disorders (such as schizophrenia), brain disorders (such as seizures, stroke).
Some side effects may occur while taking this mediation, they are as follows; Drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, tiredness, headache, trouble sleeping, nausea, increased urination, or constipation may occur. However, if these symptoms do persist or worsen, it is best to consult with your doctor.
Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: mental/mood changes (such as confusion, depression, hallucinations).
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
What happens if I suddenly stop taking this medication?
There may be a relapse in symptoms as well as side effects. You should speak your doctor before stop taking this medication.
What is the best dosage to take?
The diagnosis with your doctor will be able to determine the best dosage for your treatment. Work with your doctor closely for dosage and dosing schedules.
What happens if I miss a dose?
You should take the missed dose as soon you realize you have forgotten. If the forgotten dose is closer to your next scheduled dose, take the next schedule dose to avoid overlapping in dose.
What is the best way to store this medication?
