What is Naftin Cream (Naftifine) prescribed for?

A fungal infection is a skin disease caused by a fungus. There are in fact millions of species of fungus. They live everywhere, in the dirt, household surfaces, and even on your skin. And sometimes they can lead to skin infections and various problems that can lead to rashes and bumps.

Naftin Cream is an antifungal. And this medication is normally used to treat skin infections such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, and jock itch. This medication, when applied, works by preventing the frowth of the fungus.

This medication is to be used on the skin only. When ready to apply clean and thoroughly dry the area that is to be treated. Then apply a thin layer of the medication on and around the affected area, and then gently rub in. Normally, this medication is applied once a day.

Make sure to wash your hands after applying the medication.  Do not wrap, cover, or bandage the treated area.  Also, do not use this medication in the eyes, nose, mouth or the vagina. If you get the medication in these areas, make sure to flush with plenty of water.

Do not apply this medication more often or use longer the prescribed. Doing so may increase your risk of side effects.

Remember the length of your treatment is based on your medical condition and your response to therapy.

Cautions

Before taking this medication, it is best to advise your doctor if you are allergic to Naftifine; or to other allylamine antifungals (e.g., terbinafine); or to any other medications or allergies in general.

Side Effects

Some of these side effects may occur when taking this medication; they are as follows; Burning, stinging, irritation, redness, dry skin, or itching at application site may occur. However, if these symptoms do persist or worsen, it is best then to speak with your doctor.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

The diagnosis with your doctor will be able to determine the best dosage for your treatment. Work with your doctor closely for dosage and dosing schedules.

 

 What happens if I miss a dose?

You should take the missed dose as soon you realize you have forgotten. If the forgotten dose is closer to your next scheduled dose, take the next schedule dose to avoid overlapping in dose.

 

 What is the best way to store this medication?

This medication is stored at room temperature, and should be kept away from children and pets. Do not throw away this medication in the wastebasket. If you are uncertain how to dispose of this medication speak with your pharmacist for help in safely disposing of this medication.
