Peridex is a medical mouthwash made up of an antiseptic and germicide drug called chlorhexidine gluconate. We carry both the brand choice and generic alternative of this medication, which contains 0.12% chlorhexidine gluconate!
Peridex is prescribed typically by your dentist to treat gingivitis. Gingivitis is a mild gum disease which can be considered a bacterial infection. This condition occurs when there is a buildup of plague (a sticky film) on your teeth and gums. Bacteria can be found inside of this plaque which causes irritation on the gums. If you leave this mild gingivitis untreated, it can progress into a more serious form called periodontitis, which can lead to even more complications and result in loosing teeth.
Peridex (chlorhexidine gluconate) is effective at treating gingivitis because it is able to decrease the amount of bacteria in the mouth, which helps to reduce the swelling and redness of the gum and bleeding when your brush.
Always follow directions given to you by your doctor. Instructions can usually also be found on the prescription or prescription bottle/container.
You should use Peridex twice a day; after brushing your teeth. Ensure you measure the dose using the cup provided with the medication. Swish the medicine around in your mouth for at least 30 seconds, and then spit it out. Do not swallow the mouthwash.
Do not dilute the mouthwash with water. Avoid rinsing your mouth with water after using the medical mouthwash; it may be tempting to rinse your mouth due to a unpleasant after taste.
Use the mouthwash for the entire prescribed length, even if you feel the gingivitis has cleared up. Symptoms may clear up before the gingivitis is gone.
Store this medication at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
