Zomig-ZMT is an orally disintegrating tablet consisting of an antimigraine medication called zolmitriptan. This tablet is also known as Zomig RapiMelt internationally and may be purchased in both the brand choice and generic alternative in 2.5mg and 5mg.
Zomig-ZMT is prescribed to treat migraines, a certain type of headache. This is not a medication for common tension headaches. Migraines are severe throbbing or pulsing pains or sensations, usually on one side of the head. Most times, migraines are associated with nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. Typically, migraines last anywhere from a few hours to a few days and sometimes so severe that it may interfere with daily activities.
Zomig-ZMT (zolmitriptan) is effective at treating migraines because of its ability to narrow the blood vessels found around the brain while also reducing the substances in the body that cause you to feel pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and other migraine symptoms.
Use this Zomig-ZMT exactly the way your doctor has prescribed it to you. You can usually find directions on your prescription label. During treatment, your doctor may occasionally change your dose. Do not use more or less of Zomig than prescribed, or for longer than recommended.
Take this medication as soon as you notice migraine symptoms; place the tablet in your mouth and let it dissolve; do not swallow, crush, chew, or break this tablet; swallow several times while it dissolves; no need for water. If one tablet does not work, or the migraine comes back, you may take a second tablet 2 hours following the first one. Do not exceed more than 10mg in 24 hours. If you find yourself needing a second tablet often; tell your doctor.
This medication should be protected from heat, moisture, and light to avoid nullifying the medication.
Do not use Zomig (zolmitriptan)
Do not use this medication if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure, angina, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, heart problems, certain heart rhythm disorders, a history of heart attack or stroke, or circulation problems that cause a lack of blood supply within the body.
You should not use Zomig-ZMT if you have used an MAO inhibitor in the past 2 weeks or if you plan on using one in the next 2 weeks. Examples of MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, and tranylcypromine.
